Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Elevation: 1,800m to 2,835m | Distance: 11 km | Hiking Time: 5–7 hours
Highlights: After registration at Machame Gate, begin your trek through the enchanted tropical rainforest. Observe black-and-white colobus monkeys and exotic mountain flora before arriving at Machame Camp.
Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira 2 Camp
Elevation: 2,835m to 3,850m | Distance: 5 km | Hiking Time: 4–6 hours
Highlights: Ascend out of the rainforest canopy across open moorland ridges. Traverse the scenic Shira Plateau with dramatic views of the Kibo Glaciers.
Day 3: Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
Elevation: 3,850m to 4,600m (Lava Tower) to 3,900m (Barranco) | Distance: 10 km | Hiking Time: 6–8 hours
Highlights: A vital "climb high, sleep low" acclimatization day. Hike up to the massive volcanic Lava Tower for lunch before dropping into the scenic Barranco Valley.
Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Elevation: 3,900m to 3,960m | Distance: 5 km | Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
Highlights: Conquer the famous Barranco Wall—a fun, non-technical scramble offering panoramic views over the valley below. Continue across alpine desert valleys to Karanga Camp.
Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (Summit Base)
Elevation: 3,960m to 4,670m | Distance: 4 km | Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
Highlights: Trek through a stark, lunar-like alpine desert to Barafu Camp. Enjoy an early dinner, prepare your gear, and get some rest before the midnight summit push.
Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (Summit Day!) to Mweka Camp
Elevation: 4,670m to 5,895m (Summit) down to 3,100m | Distance: 16 km total | Hiking Time: 11–15 hours
Highlights: Begin your midnight ascent by headlamp to Stella Point on the crater rim. Reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m) at sunrise to celebrate atop Africa. Descend back to Barafu for rest and continue down to Mweka Camp.
Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (Moshi/Arusha)
Elevation: 3,100m to 1,640m | Distance: 10 km | Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
Highlights: Complete your final descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive your official summit certificates, celebrate with your mountain crew, and transfer back to your hotel.
