The Great Migration is one of nature's most awe-inspiring spectacles. Every year, over 1.5 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebra, and 350,000 gazelle traverse the Serengeti ecosystem in a clockwise circuit driven by rainfall and grass growth.
When to See the Migration
January–March: Calving season in the southern Serengeti and Ndutu. Witness thousands of births and predator action.
June–July: The herds move northwest towards the Western Corridor. Grumeti River crossings begin.
August–October: The dramatic Mara River crossings in the Northern Serengeti. This is the most iconic phase — crocodiles, rushing water, and sheer determination.
November–December: The herds return south as the short rains begin.
